What Films Are You Watching

I have to confess to watching Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle the other day. Was a strange beast in that it didn't know whether to aim itself at young kids or young teens with it's slightly risque overtones at times. The type of film that has been slagged off in the past because it doesn't have a core audience it's aiming at. Anyhoo it's OK, just out and out silliness really with some adventuring aimed at gamers lol. And well Karen Gillan has nice pins and it's never a bad thing to see them in action

So continuing on this theme of watching brainless lets say flicks not drivel, decided to watch Tomb Raider. For a moment or two thought maybe it was going to be half decent, as if?. The actress who plays Lara Croft is good, looks the part is clearly extremely fit in all senses of the word.. She’s athletic, strong does all that is required of her physically with gusto and she has a good screen presence. Alicia Vikander ticks all the boxes here and ain’t half bad of an actress either (shame about her pig awful dad in the film). But the problem is she has bugger all to work with.

A shame as there was early signs of promise as you get to see Lara in for a change, a fairly ordinary environment interacting with people in a fairly ordinary way. See the major issue with Lara as a character is, well she has none basically lol. It’s never been the most in depth of games character or story wise. Tomb Raider is about the action being the hero and little else besides, so when it comes to making a film based on the franchise it doesn’t translate to well to the big screen. If you ain’t the one in control of her actions it just shows up what a shallow world Lara Croft stems from.

Not only that the action is a strange beast indeedy, the pacing is all over the shop. The action sequences tend to be very short lived affairs with at times some extremely ropy special effects. And then when it comes to the story it is humdrum not particularly captivating, nor are the cast of characters who all seem far more befitting a game ironically enough and give little to proceedings. Don't know if it's my imagination or not but for me Tomb Raider doesn’t seem to work as a film. You know things are bad when the trailer pretty much shows you all you need to see. Alicia Vikander is cool the film less so, it reminded me of a poor man’s Indiana Jones..

Don’t get me wrong it’s not totally without merit, it just seems a waste of an opportunity for what could have been a female equivalent franchise to Indiana Jones.. There was the perfect opportunity in film form to expand upon the game world and to bring much needed depth to Lara as a character. They have failed to deliver in this respect which is an awful shame, it is merely a copy paste job from the games itself and a glorified cut-scene. It left me feeling a want to control Mrs Croft once again rather than watch this film, no bad thing perhaps… At least it’s comparable to Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, that’s something I guess lol

Had been holding off watching this trailer.. Now I have seen it, a bit worried watching that

Does not look the same, I mean yeah that's OK too not to be but the atmosphere has to be there, the creepiness the trippiness, that doesn't look present.. And the major omission of that chilling soundtrack, kills it instantly

Hmm not sure what to make of this, I really want to like it and the cover is cool if nothing else. Colossal is Pretty much unlike anything I've ever seen before; kinda anyway. Mixes Godzilla/Pacific Rim with a drama about loneliness, depression having a mental illness/possible breakdown. Can't really say it's that great, certainly different give it that and maybe for that reason it's worth a watch. Seems some think it total garbage others really enjoyed it.. Damn wish I did sadly not

looking forward to seeing this Hereditary, see what all the fuss is about.. For a horror film to get in the 7 point range on the IMDB is rare indeed

Did read someone remark the other day it's not remotely scary and is boring rubbish.. Largely dismissed that remark mind as he said every film on this list was crap. Wish I remember where I saw it to, this person clearly does not like anything that goes for creeps rather than blood and gore.
